Free shipping threshold lowered from $75 to $39

SEATTLE–(CNW)—January 23, 2003—Leading online retailer Amazon.ca (www.amazon.ca) today announced a new class of economy shipping, Free Super Saver Shipping, now available on qualifying orders of $39 or more. Super Saver Shipping is not a seasonal or limited-time promotion, but an indefinite, 365-days-a-year offer.

"Effective today, we are extending the savings already available to Amazon.ca customers, which include 40 per cent off nationally bestselling books, up to 30 per cent off DVD pre-orders and bestsellers, and more," said Marven Krug, general manager, Amazon.ca. "Canadians who fill their Shopping Carts with over $39 of books, music, videos or DVDs qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping and will save a significant amount of money when they buy at Amazon.ca."

Today's announcement marks Amazon.ca's third significant price decrease in seven months. In June 2002, Amazon.ca launched with free shipping on orders over $75, 30 per cent off books over $30, and up to 30 per cent off DVD pre-orders and bestsellers. In September 2002, the store announced 40 per cent off 40 nationally bestselling books. In October 2002, as part of a special holiday promotion, Amazon.ca lowered its free shipping threshold from $75 to $39 during the holiday season.

Free Super Saver Shipping includes an additional one to three day delay before shipping and is free on qualifying orders over $39 sent to a single Canadian address. For more details visit www.amazon.ca/supersavershipping.
