Amazon.ca's "Canada Day A-List" participants include Michael J. Fox, Sarah McLachlan, Céline Dion, and more

SEATTLE-June 24, 2004- In honour of Canada's 137th birthday, Amazon.ca (www.amazon.ca) today debuted the "Canada Day A-List," an online event created in collaboration with five world-renowned Canadian celebrities. Starting on June 24 and concluding on June 30, the day before Canada Day, each of these five celebrated Canadian artists will provide Amazon.ca customers with exclusive content - including previously-unreleased songs tracks and original artwork - for this special Canada Day tribute.

Participating artists and their exclusive Canada Day "gifts" to Amazon.ca customers are:

  • Alanis Morissette (June 24): The seven-time Grammy-award and 12-time Juno award-winner will kick-off Amazon.ca's Canada Day A-List with a full-length, exclusive acoustic track of a song from her new album, "So Called Chaos," which was released in May 2004. The track will be made available via audio stream on Amazon.ca.
  • Douglas Coupland (June 25): Celebrating the spirit of Canada Day, the bestselling author and artist created an artistic arrangement of his favourite historic Canada Post stamps - from his personal collection - especially for Amazon.ca customers. Coupland also penned an original, short essay about some little-known facts and history of the Canadian stamp.
  • Sarah McLachlan (June 28): The Grammy- and Juno-award winning songstress and musician has chosen to share with Amazon.ca customers a previously-unreleased version of the single "World on Fire" from her most recent album, "Afterglow" - her first studio recording in six years. This version of the song is a club remix by a London-based DJ.
  • Céline Dion (June 29): The international superstar offers a touching "behind the scenes" family montage created exclusively for Amazon.ca customers. The montage is set to her new single "You and I," from her newly-released album "A New Day…Live in Las Vegas," and will be made available via video stream.
  • Michael J. Fox (June 30): The film and television star and founder of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research wraps up Amazon.ca's Canada Day A-List by sharing a rarely-seen side of his talent with Amazon.ca customers - his artwork. Michael J. Fox shares a piece of original art he created for his children.

"Amazon.ca is always looking for innovative ways to make the shopping experience more convenient and fun for our customers," said Greg Greeley, vice president of North American media products for Amazon. "We are honoured to have such accomplished Canadian artists supporting us in our Canada Day celebration by sharing exclusive original and previously-unreleased work with our customers and their fans."

"A few years back I started riffing on Canada and what it means to me. I'd thought my ideas were idiosyncratic to me alone, and I was genuinely shocked when it turned out my perceptions are shared by many other Canadians," said author Douglas Coupland. "Amazon.ca's Canada Day A-List event comes on Canada's 137th birthday, July 1...woo-hoo! My second book on Canada, 'Souvenir of Canada 2' publishes the same day. Visit Amazon.ca and riff along with me."

Amazon.ca's "Canada Day A-List" is available daily on Amazon.ca's homepage (www.amazon.ca). All five artists will be featured on July 1, Canada Day.
