Jakarta, Indonesia - 27 October 2026 - BINUS University is the first university in Indonesia to join Kiro for students program, giving every student free access to Kiro, the AI agent for software engineering from AWS, for a year.
“We want students to understand and take responsibility for the solutions they build. Kiro gives them a chance to enrich how they learn, while their academic foundation, guidance from lecturers, and project reviews help them develop both technical skill and critical thinking,” said Prof. Derwin Suhartono, Dean of the School of Computer Science at BINUS University.
Empowering Innovation Through Advanced AI Facilities
As an existing AWS Academy member, BINUS University is continuing to expand its technological ecosystem. The integration of Kiro serves as an integral part of the university’s comprehensive AI curriculum, providing learners with cutting-edge tools to bridge theoretical concepts with practical application and hands-on project development.
“The use of AI technologies such as Kiro opens up opportunities for BINUSIANs to explore and transform their ideas into more tangible solutions. With the support of AWS AI technologies, students can accelerate the idea development process, validate their relevance to user needs, and demonstrate how the resulting solutions can create added value for organizations and society at large.” said Dr. Rudy, S.Kom., M.M., Dean of the School of Information Systems at BINUS University.
How Kiro benefits every Binusian
Kiro is an agentic development environment that makes it easy for developers to create and develop solutions with the help of AI agents. It uses a spec-driven development approach and agentic AI to help students code and develop solutions faster. Students can describe what they want to create in natural language, and Kiro breaks it down into requirements, a design, and a sequence of tasks before helping to code and build the solution. This helps students see how an idea, plan, and finished application connect before signing off for Kiro to build it for them.
BINUS University students receive 1,000 free monthly credits each month for one year, covering AI-assisted actions such as generating a design, developing a task list, or asking Kiro to explain code. Examples of use include computer science undergraduates applying coding with their coursework on algorithms, software engineering, data, and AI; while those in information systems can use it to explore building digital services and test ideas against real business needs.
“As AI changes how software is developed, Indonesia has an opportunity to grow a new generation of builders who are ready for that shift. The Kiro for students program gives university students access to the same AI-powered development tools that professionals use today, helping them move from coursework to real prototypes and prepare them for the workforce of tomorrow. AWS are proud to support BINUS University as the first in Indonesia to bring this to its campus,” said Yashinta Bahana, Head of APJ Market Expansion and Strategic Partnership, Amazon Web Services.
The program reflects BINUS University’s commitment to education that keeps pace with new technology and the needs of industry. In line with its vision of “Fostering and Empowering the Society in Building and Serving the Nation,” BINUS encourages its students to use the tools, knowledge, and collaboration available to them to create work that benefits society.
