California grows nearly half the country’s fruits and vegetables—yet more than 1 in 5 Californians struggle with food insecurity, meaning they have limited or uncertain access to adequate food. That’s roughly 7 million people, including children. And the need has never been more urgent.
That’s why Amazon team members across the state are doing something about it.
When Amazon opens a facility in a community, it brings more than jobs. It brings investment—from STEM education programs in local schools to infrastructure improvements and sustainability initiatives. It also fosters the passion of employees who want to give back. They organize food drives, volunteer at local food banks, and rally their neighbors to help. Feed California is the embodiment of that spirit—a statewide hunger relief campaign, built by employees in partnership with ABC7 affiliates across the state, to get food to the families and seniors who need it most.
A Statewide Movement, Built by Employees
What started five years ago in Southern California as “Feed SoCal” has grown into a statewide movement — driven by the enthusiasm of our employees who love to volunteer and are passionate about giving back. Over the last two years, the initiative has expanded across the Golden State, with more sites and more employees joining the effort each year.
Across California, Amazon employees rolled up their sleeves to support local communities by organizing food drives, packing boxes, loading pallets, and volunteering at local food banks. Together, they collected 46,202 pounds of food and essential items. In addition to employees’ volunteer efforts, Amazon provided significant financial donations to food banks.
This year, Amazon donated a total of $925,000 to seven food banks across California — including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Feeding America Riverside -San Bernardino, FOOD Share Ventura, Feeding San Diego, FIND Regional Food Bank in the Coachella Valley, SF-Marin Food Bank in San Francisco and the Central California Food Bank in Fresno. Together, these investments will provide more than 1.8 million meals to people in need.
Local policymakers and community leaders joined in to highlight the importance of working together in the fight against hunger.
Assemblymember Leticia Castillo shared, "Everyone in the Inland Empire deserves access to nutritious food, and it takes strong community partnerships to make that a reality. Amazon's collaboration with the Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino Food Bank — providing financial contributions and volunteer support — is putting hundreds of thousands of meals on tables across our region. That's the kind of investment that changes lives. I'm grateful for partners who show up for our community in meaningful ways and share our commitment to fighting hunger in the Inland Empire."
Thousands of employees also volunteered at food bank warehouses — sorting potatoes, apples, and other fresh produce into boxes shared with hundreds of distribution partners across the state.
“Year after year, I see firsthand how meaningful these opportunities are, not just for me, but for everyone who gets involved,” shared Selina Guerrero, General Manager Assistant at FAT1 in Fresno. “There's something special about giving back to the communities where we grew up, where we live, work, raise our families, and build our lives. It's more than just showing up — it's about connection, purpose, and reminding ourselves that small acts of service create big ripple effects. I'm proud to be part of a team that values giving back, and I can't wait to keep making an impact together.”
Logistics for Good: Delivering Meals to Doorsteps
Fighting hunger isn’t just about writing checks. It’s about getting food to the people who need it most. That’s where Amazon's expertise in logistics becomes a powerful resource.
Amazon partners with food banks across California — at no cost to them — to deliver groceries directly to the doorsteps of families and individuals facing food insecurity. Using the same delivery network that serves millions of customers daily, Amazon Flex drivers pick up and deliver bags of groceries to homes that might otherwise go without.
In San Francisco, for example, Amazon delivers to 3,400 homes weekly on behalf of the SF-Marin Food Bank, leveraging our logistics at no cost to the food bank. This three-year partnership ensures that seniors, people with disabilities, and families who can’t physically visit a food pantry still receive fresh groceries at their door.
“We’re extremely grateful for the generous support Amazon has provided for our Home Delivered Groceries program,” said the SF-Marin Food Bank’s Executive Director Tanis Crosby. “In the wake of severe cuts to the social safety net, Amazon’s commitment to our mission matters now more than ever. It recognizes our ability to not only operate at scale to reach every corner of San Francisco and Marin with HDG, but it also helps to sustain our overall efforts to eliminate hunger and its root causes.”
It’s a model we’re scaling. In 2025, Amazon announced it has delivered more than 60 million free meals from food banks across the U.S. and UK directly to families in need and expanding the free food bank delivery program through 2028.
These partnerships have now reached a powerful milestone—10 million meals delivered to Californians who need them most.
