Cikarang, August 6, 2026 – Water management has become one of the strategic issues in global industrial development. The United Nations (UN) estimates that by 2030, the world could face a gap of up to 40% between water demand and the availability of clean water if current consumption patterns remain unchanged. Meanwhile, the industrial sector accounts for approximately 19% of total global freshwater withdrawals, making the implementation of solutions such as water recycling and reuse increasingly important to ensure the sustainability of water resources.

Addressing this challenge, Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC), an integrated industrial estate managed by PT Puradelta Lestari Tbk, a subsidiary of Sinar Mas Land and Sojitz Corporation, has been developing a water reclamation program since 2025 to reduce freshwater consumption while promoting sustainable industrial development to support tenant operations at GIIC in Kota Deltamas. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the first tenant who collaborated with GIIC to bring this initiative to implementation, and the first to utilize reclaimed water from the facility for its data center cooling operations.

Hongky J. Nantung, President Director of PT Puradelta Lestari Tbk, said:"Sustainability is at the core of GIIC's development strategy. Since the launch of our water reclamation program in January 2025, we are pleased to see tenants embracing this initiative. Amazon Web Services is the first tenant to adopt reclaimed water from our facility for its data center cooling operations. This demonstrates how sustainable infrastructure can reduce freshwater consumption while supporting the long-term growth of industries at GIIC."

Since becoming operational, the GIIC Recycled Water Treatment Plant has a treatment capacity of 8,000 m³ per day, enabling the reuse of approximately 60% of the treated effluent generated by the estate's Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The reclaimed water complies with Indonesian government regulations, including the Regulation of Ministry of Health No. 02 of 2023 and Government Regulation (PP) No. 66 of 2014, ensuring it is safe for various industrial utility applications. By treating and reusing wastewater, GIIC has successfully reduced its dependence on freshwater sources while strengthening water supply resilience for tenants across the estate.

Saji PK, Director for Data Center Operations, AWS APJC, added, "At Amazon, we are committed to contributing to solutions that address the growing challenge of water availability in the communities where we operate. This is why we have taken a global goal to return more water than we use in our operations back to communities by 2030, and are 75% of the way there. Other than reducing the water we use and replenishing water back to communities, using recycled water where possible is a key strategy for our data centre operations because we believe potable water should be reserved for people and communities who need it most. It also supports local water security, promotes circular water management practices, and demonstrate a scalable model for sustainable industrial development that other organizations can follow. We are proud to be part of GIIC's water reclamation initiative, which demonstrates how collaboration between infrastructure developers and technology companies can create meaningful environmental and social outcomes.”

GIIC is located in Kota Deltamas, Cikarang, an integrated industrial township jointly developed by Sinar Mas Land and Sojitz Corporation of Japan. Spanning approximately 2,200 hectares, the industrial estate features modern environmental infrastructure, including integrated wastewater treatment facilities (serving industrial wastewater, hotel wastewater, and domestic waste), clean water production through a centralized Water Treatment Plant, renewable energy sourced from solar panels and PLN's green electricity program, as well as extensive green open spaces and environmentally friendly building materials.

The industrial estate enjoys direct access to the Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road, specifically at KM 37, and is further supported by two dedicated toll interchanges—KM 31 Jakarta-Cikampek II and KM 42 Jakarta-Cikampek—both providing direct access into GIIC. Its strategic location offers exceptional accessibility for industrial businesses, employees, and residents alike.

GIIC is also supported by a comprehensive range of supporting facilities. In education, the township is home to Cikarang Japanese School, Korean Education Complex, Bandung Institute of Technology and Science (ITSB), Pangudi Luhur School, and SMK Ananda Mitra Industri. Healthcare facilities include Mitra Keluarga Hospital, the upcoming Eka Hospital, and a 24-hour medical clinic. Lifestyle, sports, and recreational amenities such as AEON Mall Deltamas, Deltamas Sports Center, J-Golf, and dedicated jogging tracks further enhance the quality of life for workers and residents, please visit: www.deltamas.id
