Telenor is live with its new cutting-edge Nordic TV platform, leveraging the company’s strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Scalstrm AB for a modernized and efficient regional streaming service.
As the industry prepares to gather for the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Telenor announces the next step of its strategic collaboration with AWS and Scalstrm to advance the modernization of its pan-Nordic TV and entertainment platform to provide future-ready TV services for our Nordic customers across Norway, Sweden, and Finland.

"By working closely with AWS and Scalstrm, we’ve rapidly moved from planning to execution. This kind of project would have taken more than 3 years to deliver for Telenor with traditional on-prem installation, while it has taken less a year to put our cloud-based services into production. We already process more than 20% of our portfolio of commercial channels in Finland, Norway and Sweden on the new platform, combining resilience, cost efficiency, and scalability across our large Nordic footprint. This is a major milestone in making our streaming services cloud-native and future-ready and is a true enabler for our migration to one, common Nordic TV platform," adds Voss Eriksen.
Transforming to a future-fit TV operation
Through the strategic collaboration, Telenor draws on AWS’s advanced cloud computing and low-latency connectivity through AWS Direct Connect and petabyte-scale storage, while Scalstrm delivers cloud-native origin based on Infrastructure as Code (IaaC) for consistent deployments.
The collaboration has resulted in Telenor successfully deploying a common state-of-the art cloud-based origin platform for the company’s TV services across the Nordics, delivering next-generation streaming infrastructure for Live TV, Start-Over, Catch-Up, Network Personal Video Recorder, and Video on Demand (VOD). This initiative is a cornerstone of Telenor’s Nordic transformation leveraging modern technology and moving beyond traditional telecom operations to embrace cloud-native innovation with an ambition to reduce operating costs by up to 50% in some areas.
