Bengaluru, July 20, 2026 — Amazon India today marked five years of its Machine Learning Summer School (MLSS), a free, virtual program that has trained over 12,000 engineering students in core Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) disciplines since 2021. Delivered by Amazon scientists over four weekends each year, the program has crossed 4 lakh cumulative registrations, growing from 3,927 registrants in its first edition to more than 1.3 lakh in 2026. Now in its sixth year, MLSS continues to bridge the gap between academic curricula and industry-ready AI skills, giving students hands-on experience with challenges spanning recommendation systems, natural language processing, computer vision, and forecasting at scale.Over the past five years, Amazon MLSS has continued to evolve its curriculum in line with advancements in Machine Learning, while expanding access to practical, industry-relevant learning for students across institutions and geographies. The program follows a structured journey designed to identify students with strong potential and progressively build their Machine Learning capabilities. Following registration, applicants undergo a two-stage assessment process comprising a written evaluation and an advanced, proctored coding assessment, with the top 3,000 candidates selected for the program. Participants undertake eight learning modules delivered virtually over four consecutive weekends, covering Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, Deep Neural Networks, Sequential Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Generative AI, and Large Language Models. I went from being a third-year engineering student in Faridabad to working as a full-time Applied Scientist at Amazon."

Over five years, hundreds of program alumni have joined Amazon in science and engineering roles, while many others have secured positions at leading technology companies, entered doctoral programs, or launched careers in Machine Learning research.
