GREENWOOD, Ind. – September 24, 2026 – Amazon today announced plans to invest more than $100 million in a new 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility located in Greenwood, Indiana, creating 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs. The facility will produce products that power Amazon's fulfillment and robotics network across North America and is expected to launch by 2028.
The investment deepens Amazon's nearly two-decade commitment to Indiana, where the company has invested more than $40 billion and created more than 27,000 jobs since first launching operations in the state in 2008. It’s also another example of the company’s deep investments in American manufacturing and economic growth. Amazon has built one of the largest industrial robotics manufacturing operations in the world at its facilities in Massachusetts and has manufactured more than one million robots in the U.S. to date. Those robots are now deployed across more than 300 facilities globally, assisting employees with 75% of all customer orders the company delivers worldwide. The Greenwood facility follows an August announcement of a new robotics manufacturing investment in Texas, as Amazon continues to expand its domestic manufacturing footprint.
That growth has been good for employees too. As the company has deployed more robots across its operations, it's seen meaningful improvements in workplace safety and created more skilled roles, including technicians, engineers, and specialists who maintain and work alongside these systems.
A new chapter in Amazon's Indiana story
Amazon first came to Indiana in 2008. What started with a single fulfillment center has grown into one of the company's most significant operational footprints in the country – spanning fulfillment and sortation centers, robotic facilities, delivery stations, same-day delivery sites, data centers, wind and solar farms, and carbon-free energy projects. Today, Amazon supports more than 27,000 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs across the state, contributing more than $35 billion to Indiana's GDP.
The Greenwood facility represents the next evolution of that commitment: bringing advanced manufacturing capabilities in-house to strengthen Amazon's supply chain, create high-paying skilled jobs, and invest in the communities that have supported the company's growth.
Amazon's commitment to Indiana also extends beyond direct jobs and capital investment. Since 2019, more than 4,200 employees in Indiana have participated in Amazon's free education and skills training programs through Amazon’s Career Choice program, opening new pathways to higher-paying careers and fulfilling opportunities. Thirty-two education partners across Indiana participate in the program, which pre-pays tuition for employees pursuing in-demand certifications and degrees – from cloud computing to nursing to skilled trades. In addition, Amazon offers training for members of communities throughout the state, including Amazon Future Engineer for K-12 students and AWS Educate for early-career talent - part of the company's Future Ready 2030 initiative to prepare 50 million people with the skills needed to succeed in the future of work.
Why Greenwood, Indiana
Amazon selected the Greenwood site based on Indiana's unmatched manufacturing workforce, competitive cost structure, world-class logistics infrastructure, and business-friendly environment.
Indiana is the nation's leading manufacturing state by GDP contribution, with manufacturing representing approximately 24% of state GDP and employing more than 518,000 workers. The Indianapolis region offers exceptional access to manufacturing talent, including a pipeline of more than 2,500 industrial engineering graduates annually from institutions across the state – including Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Ivy Tech Community College.
The state's central location and logistics infrastructure – ranked 13th nationally for transportation – provide direct access to Amazon's fulfillment network across North America, enabling efficient distribution of manufactured products to facilities nationwide.

What the facility will do
The approximately 585,000-square-foot facility will integrate advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly capabilities under one roof – supported by AWS and AI-powered smart manufacturing systems and robotics. The facility will produce products used in Amazon fulfillment centers across North America and is expected to launch by 2028.
New roles coming to the facility include Computer Numerical Control (CNC) operators, welders, powder coating technicians, assemblers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance specialists, controls engineers, and program managers. The roles earn an average of nearly $100,000 per year.
