Australian authors and publishers can now publish and sell their books on Amazon.com.au and all Kindle stores globally, as well as set their book prices and receive royalties in Australian dollars

SEATTLE—November 12, 2013—(NASDAQ: AMZN)—Amazon today announced that independent authors and publishers are now able to make their books available in the new Australian Kindle Store, as well as in 175 countries worldwide using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) (http://kdp.amazon.com.au). KDP is a fast, free and easy way for authors and publishers to make their books available via the Kindle Store, Kindle devices and on free Kindle reading apps, while retaining control of their content and copyrights. They can earn up to 70% royalties on sales to customers in Australia, New Zealand, the US, UK and many others, making more money on each book sold. Authors can also price their books and receive payments in Australian dollars, and authors in New Zealand can choose to be paid in New Zealand dollars.

“Authors and publishers can now publish and sell their books in the new Australian Kindle Store with KDP, making their books available to customers in Australia and all over the world while earning more money,” said Neil Lindsay, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “Many people have a story to tell and we’re happy to make it easier for writers to share their books with readers.”

Thousands of Australian authors are already using KDP, including Karly Lane, author of Burnt , and best-selling author James Duigan, author of The Clean & Lean Diet. “Bringing my Clean & Lean Diet print books to Kindle has been an empowering experience,” said Duigan. “Self-publishing with KDP has allowed me to connect directly with the people I want to reach with my message of kindness and acceptance. I’m so incredibly happy that the book is now accessible to a global audience.”

Today Amazon also launched the Australian Kindle Store, offering over 2 million eBooks, the most English language best sellers, more than 400,000 Kindle-exclusive titles, best-selling illustrated children’s and young adult books, cookbooks, comics and graphic novels, and more. Amazon also announced that in addition to Kindle Paperwhite, the all-new Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets are now on sale locally in Australia at Dick Smith and Big W stores—for more details, visit www.amazon.com.au.
