JAKARTA – 7 August, 2025 – Amazon Web Services (AWS) today held the Jakarta edition of its AWS AI League, a newly-launched groundbreaking global competition designed to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and AI skills across the workforce in the field of generative AI (Gen AI).
The AWS AI League provides an environment where enterprises and developers can gain hands-on experience with AI fundamentals - from fine-tuning and model customization to prompt engineering - while solving real-world business challenges. By bridging theory and practice, Gen AI becomes more accessible and helps organizations accelerate their AI initiatives, using services such as Amazon SageMaker AI and Amazon Bedrock. The collaborative environment encourages developers to experiment, innovate, and connect with fellow AI enthusiasts, fostering a community where they can share insights while competing for prizes on the leaderboard.
The winner of the Jakarta edition will bring home the AWS AI League Jakarta Champion’s title; and a direct ticket to compete at the global championship finals at re:Invent 2025 this December in Las Vegas with a chance to win USD$25,000. Aside from Jakarta, the league will also be held at AWS Summits in Bogota, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
"The AWS AI League represents our commitment to fostering AI innovation and making AI accessible to everyone," said Yashinta Bahana, Head of Training & Certification Indonesia, AWS. "By bringing together diverse talents from around the world, we're creating a collaborative ecosystem that promotes both technological advancement and embodies our vision of digital inclusion for learners from all backgrounds. We’re excited to bring together so many talented individuals to master cutting-edge AI technologies while continuing our efforts to train millions of learners on AI skills."
One million Indonesians trained on cloud skills
AWS also announced today that it has now trained over one million Indonesians on cloud skills since 2017, marking a significant commitment from AWS to empower the nation’s digital workforce. To achieve this milestone, AWS has been offering localized training programs for organizations, workers, and students in Indonesia. One such is Terampil di Awan (“Skillful in cloud,”) which teaches high school and vocational students, learners with disabilities, small and medium-sized businesses, and underserved communities on Cloud and Gen AI skills. Another program is CendekiAwan (“Cloud Scholar”) – part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s Kampus Merdeka – that helps prepare university students with relevant cloud and digital skills. AWS will continue to invest in providing access to Indonesians to help prepare them for future-ready digital skills – including local AWS initiatives that integrate AWS learning materials and Gen AI into vocational school curricula, and providing mentorship, to foster innovation.
What is the AWS AI League?
Since 2018, AWS DeepRacer has engaged over 560,000 builders worldwide, demonstrating that developers learn and grow through competitive experiences. The AWS AI League expands this into the Gen AI era, and features:
- Up to USD$2 million in AWS credits and a championship prize pool of USD$25,000 to reward top performers at AWS re:Invent 2025,
- Access to AWS AI tools and technical resources,
- Emphasis on hands-on learning about emerging technologies and techniques. As AI continues to evolve, AWS AI League will regularly introduce new challenges and formats in addition to these tracks.
AWS AI League can be held in two ways: Firstly, enterprises can apply to receive AWS credits to host their own internal AWS AI League competitions, fostering a culture of innovation within their organizations. Secondly, individual developers can participate in the AWS AI League at select AWS events, giving them a chance to compete while engaging with cutting-edge AI technologies and gaining skills crucial for developing advanced AI solutions.
