February 7, 2005: The ultimate gross-out film, Freddy Got Fingered has been named as the worst film to watch on a Valentine's Day date, according to a poll by Amazon.co.uk and IMDB.com (Internet Movie Database).

The film--in which an unemployed slacker embarks on a series of childish and bizarre stunts--was voted at the top of the list of the worst films to watch with a date on Valentine's Day. A significant 29% of over 8,000 voters said this film would without doubt have them running for the door if their date played this to them on February 14.

Other films that would lead potential dates to make their excuses and leave were Alien vs Predator in second place (12% of the total votes), Fatal Attraction in third place (11%) and Rambo in fourth place (9%).

Themes that were a turn-off in the worst 15 Valentine's Day films were failed romances (5 films), followed by violent action/horror (3 films) and slushy love stories (2 films).

In an alternate film poll by IMDB.com, the top 3 films to watch on a date were named as The Princess Bride, Amelie and When Harry Met Sally.

"Picking a film for a date should actually be a very carefully thought out process," comments Rikki Price, DVD editor at Amazon.co.uk. "You're giving a potential partner or date an insight into your personality and first impressions count. There's a very thin line between romantic and cheesy, between thriller and violent and between slapstick comedy and gross-out film.

"Taking Freddy Got Fingered out of the DVD case on Valentine's Day is never going to be a good idea. Not only are you going to come across as quite inelegant but your date won't thank you for choosing a film in such bad taste on this special day!

"For those who may be panicking about February 14" adds Price, "the film team here would recommend playing it safe with either a classic film like Breakfast at Tiffany's or the more modern Amelie instead, both of which are available to buy or rent on Amazon.co.uk, along with a huge selection of other titles to ensure your date goes smoothly this Valentine's Day."
