March 1, 2005: With even more titles published every year, who are the authors to watch? Amazon.co.uk is delighted to present its choice of New & Emerging Authors, in a new promotion to run for several weeks with one author featured a week and a number of titles from the list available at 40% off recommended retail price.
The Amazon.co.uk Books team invited publishers to submit titles from up-and-coming authors, including debuts as well as breakthrough titles, which were then judged by an internal panel, with the winners selected to feature on the site. The panel chose a list with something to appeal to a wide range of literary tastes, from a dazzlingly humorous tale of the last seconds of a man's life as he leaps from a nine-storey building to a deliciously sexy blockbuster of Hollywood ambition, greed and intrigue.
Each choice will feature for one week on the Amazon.co.uk Books homepage. The promotion kicked off on February 28 with The Great Stink by Clare Clark--a wonderfully gruesome and compelling thriller set in the Victorian sewers from readers of authors such as Peter Ackroyd and Matthew Kneale.
The other books that will feature in the Amazon.co.uk New & Emerging Authors feature are:
- The Icarus Girl by Helen Oyeyemi
- The Family Tree by Carole Cadwalladr
- Strangers by Taichi Yamada, Wayne P. Lammers (Translator)
- The Greatest Gift by Danny Leigh
- Adored by Tilly Bagshawe
Fiona Buckland, Senior Books Editor at Amazon.co.uk comments:
- A number of books were submitted for consideration and the quality of the titles was extremely high, making it very difficult for us to make the final choice. There is a wealth of new talent within the industry at the moment, and we are pleased we will be able to showcase a selection of these to our customers through the Amazon.co.uk New & Emerging Authors feature.
