LONDON — 19th December 2014— Large screen TVs are some of the most popular purchases on Amazon.co.uk this Christmas with customers looking to create a cinema experience in the home. Amazon are adding to the viewing experience for customers, today announcing that Prime members and all customers can now instantly enjoy blockbuster movies, hit TV shows and Amazon Original Series, in Ultra HD picture quality—a premium resolution that has four times the number of pixels as standard full HD. Ultra HD movies and TV shows are accessible through the Amazon Instant Video app on compatible Ultra HD smart TVs.

Available at no additional cost to their membership, Amazon Prime members can now binge watch Amazon Original Series including the 2 x Golden Globe nominated Transparent, the John Goodman fan-favorite Alpha House, Roman Coppola’s upcoming comedy Mozart In The Junglestarring Gael García Bernal, and children’s series Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Streetin Ultra HD quality exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video.

Amazon Prime members are also be able to view upcoming Amazon Original Series Bosch, Hand of God, The After and Red Oaks in Ultra HD on Prime Instant Video later next year. The next round of Amazon Studios pilots, including The Man in the High Castle from Emmy Award winner Ridley Scott, will be available to view in Ultra HD for all customers to watch and provide feedback on when they debut early next year.

Already used in film production and movie theatres, Ultra HD is the next step in high-definition resolution, utilising displays with an aspect ratio of at least 16:9 and showcasing video at a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels or 8.3 million pixels. With Ultra HD, movies and TV shows can be viewed in unprecedented picture clarity and detail, so even up-close images appear clearer, less pixelated and extremely lifelike.
